I can render in the 64-bit firefly and not need to be rendering as background or queue. When I render my scene I just hit the normal render button, bring up the vista task master and can see the 64-bit rendering is engaged. My machine is an Intel quad-core, 8 gig, vista 64 rig but I have a nVidia card and not ATI. But I can render with 64-bit firefly without needed to run as background or in a queue.
I know when I installed PPro on my rig I made darn sure to run it as the admin if you do not have the UAC disabled.
