Subject: HELP with Rikishi by Odegami

shante ( ) posted Sun, 30 November 2008 at 1:09 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 8:28 AM

I am thinking of getting Rikishi basic package taking advantage of the $5.00 off site offer. But in reading the specs it says it requires Poser 6 (PC only).
has anyone on a Mac gotten this figure or anyone running older versions of Poser?
Trying to get the original creator on-line to ask but no response yet.

I suspect that the reason it says Poser 6 is probably because of compressed geometry in the form of OBZ instead of OBJ. Nearly every figure I've ever seen with that requirement either used file compression or external binary morphs. an OBZ can be uncomressed with winzip and external binary morphs can be loaded with a DAZ Studio tool and resaved.

No- he uses OBJs. It's been a long time since I used Poser 5 and I'm on a PC, but I will point out that the material on the face (as an example) has 8 nodes.

btw, I used my coupon to buy him. Now I wish I'd bought him a year ago, when I first started looking at him. He is really nice.

I bought Rikishi when I was using Poser 6 on a PC. I'm now using Poser 7 on a Mac and have no problem loading, posing, or rendering Rikishi.

Yes but the OP is apparently using Poser 4, 5 or Poser 4 Pro Pack. Hence the question 'Will he work in earlier versions?" When they say it requires Poser 6 that's usually because the product has been saved using one of the advanced features I mentioned which are not available in Poser 5 or below.

Thet doesn't mean the figure won't work in earlier versions, but you'll have to work to get the CR2 resaved with all morph data in the CR2 instead of a PMD file and all compressed files like CRZ and OBZ have to be uncomressed for Poser 4 & 5 to recognise them.

Hey Lundon_Man is the DL file from the store a .zip or .exe file? If .zip I might be able to work with it by unarchiving to a blank folder and using the converter app to bring it into a mac version of Poser. The other point about the figure working in P5 oer lower:
The only things I can think of are that:
1.  it wasn't tested on a Mac so the artist does not want to commit himself (herself) to offering it for that platform
2.  because there are two versions of the figure (regular and dynamic hair version I can see why it might be version specific.
I wish the artist would get back to me or better I wish I had seen this when the coupon was first made available I would have had more time to contact him(her) and get these questions resolved.

I bought him a few days ago. He does NOT have PMDs and he is NOT compressed.

Hi Shante- we cross posted. He is in a zip file.

Ok then the only thing that won't work in the earlier versions is the dynamic hair. The figure will work just fine.

Hey Lundon_man does the Rikishi Standard also have an option for a regular Non-dynamic facial hair? I love the goatee but if I am going to use it in P4/5 obviously that won't work.. Also are his Gens morphable and hideable?

Thanks guys. Really appreciate the feed back. Now I gotta decide how best to use this $5.00 coupon. Do I get Rikishi or do I get Dryades (dreads) hair (love that)!?  :)
