Subject: Best looking V4 teeth textures, etc.?

ksanderson ( ) posted Fri, 05 December 2008 at 3:35 PM · edited Fri, 13 December 2024 at 8:49 PM

Hey everybody, which V4 character sets have the best, real, cleanest teeth textures, reflections, etc.? Seems hard to find them as most characters have their mouths closed in promo pictures and the ones that have their mouths open look like they have plastic teeth or dentures. Please mention your favorites and if you know of a link to a picture showing their teeth, please post that, too. I haven't had much luck going through the characters I own.

Best teeth I don't know but I would gather the better the face the better the teeth... if the face shows variance between the cheek and the eye socket and the tip of the nose and has good natural lips I would gather the maker has an attention to detail. If the figure has a generic smoothy quality I would not expect much from the inner mouth and other details. I think good eye socket texture usually is the sign of good work overall. I like ApoGraphix by Fenrissa and Thorne Sarsa for textures. I wonder if you should also try shader tricks like SSS? I used to give just a touch of transparency to teeth back in P4.

I was definitely thinking of SSS, too, but the problems seem to be in the crevices between... and some teeth seem almost gray. I agree that the better skin textures have the better teeth and attention to detail overall but I'm still not happy. Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions!

Attached Link: Millennium Teeth

Also if you have it in your Poser try the AO in the materials settings for good shading between the teeth. There is the old Millenium Teeth prop by DAZ which are very detailed or you could look among your figures for the best teeth and spawn those as an upper and a lower prop to use with your figure of choice. Finnaly... usually the specular setting isn't exactly right on teeth and gums as-is and the specular size needs to be set lower. If you are interested in close-up renders I would also suggest you try a replacement eye product such as by Preditron3D.

If you have Apollo (free),, he has a clever set of dentures that can be surplanted. They lack the gaps that give grief in poserlight. Just parent and lock.

Maya doll also has prop teeth, very nice modeled 😉

I think teeth looks best with AO. Using AO they aren´t so white anymore but natural.
AO ist easy to do with the plugin by face_Off or Renderstudio (4 Poser) at RDNA.

If you don't do gamma correction, you will fail. This is one of those places where the difference between dark gray and light gray is crucial, as well as one of those places where a very large amount of variance occurs in a small area. We are  keenly sensitive to anything wrong here in a render.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

I have the Millenium Teeth prop by DAZ  and would love the same result. I too am looking for a very realistic smile. the maps that come with the sets are very detailed but I dont know how to replace them so the mouth will move corectly with the new teeth. can anyone explain how to do this?

thanks all. this is a great thead.

Old thread on the subject. (link)

Series 4 teeth are much better. I think one nice secret to a good smile is the actual reveal.. Some smiles are pretty "toothy". You can unlock the uppers and drop them down,,, use the dials... Xrotation even.. Lots of room for improvement. Trick is to get the corners of the mouth back, too. I found lips pucker in (negative -0.100) or mouth "A" help here with the smile morphs. Otherwise they can look like they sat on something unfortunate...

the rest is in the matroom.  You kinda want a glass of milk

thanks for the link but I still have no clue how to replace the originals. you need to create a prop?
