as a poser user, my vote would be to buy carrara.  note that poser lites do not
obey the laws of optics, but carrara lites do obey said laws.  thus it takes some
time to get used to doing lites the right way (carrara) as opposed to doing lites
the poser way (nostril glow, shadow maps, sets consisting of dozens of infinite
lites, incorrect application of HDRI and GI, no indirect lighting without running
python script, no inverse square fall-off, et al.).
