BTW, you don't have to model everything in Carrara. It imports a lot of formats nicely, and I find it hard to go wrong with the ubiquitous .obj.
Yes, Carrara does do the job of modeling in the modeling room. But there are other apps that can do that particular job better and much faster. (And I'm still using C5 Pro myself.) And some of the best modeling apps are free, no need to worry about the cost of adding another tool to the artist's kit.
But even with imported models, the modeling room does have some uses. I find it useful for orientating handles and stuff that ties into using constraints or basic rigging. (Like putting a pivot that doesn't lie on X,Y, or Z on something mechanical.) Might also be handy for material zones or UVs that don't quite behave once brought in.
