P6 should work fine on XP Home - as long as the graphics card supports OpenGL. That's where your problem comes in, most likely. Intel Extreme Graphics chips - older than 2 years - do not supoort OpenGL 2.0. With a bit of luck they do OpenGL 1.1,

If you're on a laptop - out of luck. You can't upgrade the graphics card.

If you're on a desktop, you can add a graphics card. If the machine is older (3 years or more) chances are that your graphics expansion slot is an AGP slot - and AGP graphics cards are pretty hard to come by these days. Furthermore, they're also more expensive than their PCI Express counterparts.

But if you have a PCI Express slot for graphics, you can easily upgrade. I'd advise an nVidia 8500GT based graphics card - fast enough for Poser work, good OpenGL 2.0 support, and quite affordable (think $70 or thereabouts).
ATI cards may seem to offer great value for money, but that is only true for games. ATI consumer cards still have pretty lousy OpenGL support, a problem you won't encounter with nVidia graphics cards. ATI hardware is fine, it's the drivers that are lacking.
And if you want to keep the option of running Linux graphics apps, you're better off with nVidia too.

The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter
