Yup, you can name it.  It's up to the end user to google it if they so choose.

You can't put a .com or whatever web extension it is after the name.  You can say, "Hey, there's this awesome thing I saw at Renderotica", but no .com, and no linky.

The target audience of Renderosity is fairly mainstream, and links to porn sites do not mesh well with a mainstream oriented site.

the thing that bothers me about this statement, if it is fact, or not, is that an individual reading a post here, if there is a link, can make a choice whether or not to go to it. Same with looking at porne, nudity, violence, whatever. It is the individuals choice.

Granted, some young ones may click the link, but perhaps mom and dad should be more careful with what they allow them to view on the internet, plus the fact if they're interested in seeing it, they will somehow, someplace, sometime.

I thought the issue had to do with PayPal interpreting strictly their TOS as applied to RMP... that they were threatening to suspend RMP some years ago due to links to porn sites, that is what also lead to the thumnail policy and the more restrictive definition of nudity.

That is the actual mature way of looking at it.  However, when it comes to the internet, not everyone is mature.  You can put as many warnings as you want that the link has content not suitable for everyone, and, the second you do, and it's proven, complaints go out to sponsors, etc., that there are adult links on a site, blah blah blah.  I'm not 100% that this is why admin decided on that ruling oh-so-many years ago (that was way before I came on staff), but, it makes sense for practical reasons.  This is a learning site.  People of all ages come here, to learn how to use various programs (it's not just Poser!).   I had a person on my watch list that I ended up finding out, at the time, was a 17-year-old who'd been a member for a few years.  He's in college, now, 20, and doing freaking amazing things, and, well, sniffle has outgrown Renderosity.  Heck, LiquidRust (vendor over at DAZ) isn't even of legal drinking age!  So, while we agree that we want you guys to use common sense regarding what you click on, due to the fact that we're open to all ages, we have to set a restriction.  I know that my old webhost set limits on what I could post and link to, which is why I changed hosts (I like previewing my characters and showing my nude art on my website).  
Plus, it's a violation of US law to make available age-restricted content (see link)

that's a very long finding by the SC.. need to get a berage and sit back for awhile.

Silverblade, the main (and last) point in my post is that it's not just policy.  It's federal law.  We can't just ok links to whatever we want just because...we're open to everyone.  In that, we have to take the responsibility to go the extra mile to state in our policy that it is also a TOS violation.  If a member posts a link to an adult site, and if we're reported to a child protection agency, we can actually get shut down, and the owners prosecuted.  I know I'm not for that, and I doubt that anyone else here is, either.

Thank you for removing the link..... I'm suprised that people who visit this place for so long still even try to link to such place, we all should know Rendo's policy by now. Nudity is one thing, but this goes a step further and in an open place like this it should not be linked to.

Just to set the record straight, the site I linked to, while a '3D Porn' site, there wasn't any actual 'porn' on the site, -just nude poses featuring PosetteV3.  The images themselve, under different circumstances, could have for the most part, been posted here in the galleries. 
While I did make a mistake in assuming that the images themselves were harmless enough, and could be linked to, I do not think that holier than thou attitudes are called for.

I've never visited the forums at CGTalk, nor do I ever plan to.  While I work with 3ds Max, I've also come to realise its limitations.  When it comes to animating and posing human like figures, Poser does it best.  I can load an animtion figure into 3ds Max, but cannot just click on an arm or leg and pose it.  If I do so, I end up pulling the whole mesh off its skeleton.  Instead, I have to right click H, and open the heirachy menu, and then chose the bone itself.
3ds Max excells Poser in many ways, but there is one at least where Poser exceeds 3ds Max in ease and facility!  Renderosity answers all my needs in both Poser and 3ds Max.

Little kids shouldn't be using the net, period, without their parents.  The computer, like the t.v., is not a babysitter. 

However, it's not just little kids, as I said in my other post.  Artistic genius doesn't just hit you once you hit 18.  And this isn't just a Poser site.

There was a great p0rn blocker I used to use that is no longer available... it just did a text search of the page source before loading a page indexed against your own list of proscribed words... simple, fast, practically no false positives and totally effective for blocking unwanteds... much better than cybernanny or the MSIE systems that I always have to unplug because they block innocuous stuff and let actual porn through. Anyone know a simple app like that text based filter still available? It would certainly be a boon if someone would release a free app like that again... not a single porn could get past it but there was no problem with health pages or forums with iffy screen named members as show up on gamer sites.

Stick the bones to the mesh.

Then I animate the mesh but some of the points don't do right so I animate the points individually.

COPA= Child Online Protection Act.
Made it illegal to have pornographic material on a website without an access code, or "proof of age" message. Some websites took the position that you could not link to a website that contained pornography without being in violation of COPA.
It got terminated by the Supreme Court of The US today, for being in violation of Free Speech.

COPA also had a clause, I seem to remember, that "Virtual Porn" was to be treated no different than Real Porn; that had already been found to be weird by the Supremes a while back, and they said that as long as you didn't try to represent Virtual Porn as real porn, you were cool. I have no ideas if that changed with this most recent ruling.
The way this might affect you: it's no longer even remotely illegal to link to an adult website. As this ruling has absolutely no bearing on Paypal or renderosity's TOS, you still wouldn't be able to post links HERE.

Sorry to derail the thread, but I really have to disagree with that. CGTalk is a great site, no question about it, but it has more than its share of bad art and bad modeling. I'd been warned for years not to post anything at CGTalk, that they look down on Poser, and blah blah blah. Well, I figured what the hell and put up one of my CANDIDE images -- and the responses were great: very positive, curious how I did something, and so on. When I finally told them how it was done, the opinions turned on the proverbial dime. That tells me they'd rather be impressed by the software and not the final results, and frankly I dont have time for such elitist bullshit.

Absolutely.  We're not changing the TOS at the moment, and I don't see a change on that position any time in the future.

I don't normally comment my personal opinion on stuff like this, but I've been reading an article, and a comment really struck me.

Yup.  I completely advocate watching and being with your kid while they surf the internet.  First of all, why are they online?  Are they playing a game?   Know where they're playing.  Take interest, and, heck, play WITH them!  My son has more fun playing games with me than playing alone.  I know not all kids are like that, so if your kid doesn't want to play with you, it doesn't mean you can't get involved.  Pay attention to what they're playing, and congratulate them when they do awesome.  Even Tetris Kids like a pat on the back once in a while.  If they're there to do homework, why aren't you helping them?  Seriously.  My son's newest research obsession (jeez, he's 8!) is penguins.  He wants to save the penguins, and he theorizes that in order to do that, he has to know everything about them.  So, rather than buying him legos he wasn't going to use at Christmas, I bought him as many books (fiction and non) on penguins that I could find.  
I just stop listening to parents when they say "oh, that filthy site, I can't believe that is accessible to my child!" about any site when they don't take the time to actually spend time with the kid doing what they're doing.  Also, nudity does not = porn.  That is something that schools just can't instill...that starts at home.  It starts with a healthy body image, it starts with a healthy understanding that clothes are supposed to be armor from the elements, and that it's only a bonus that they look good.  sigh
