Subject: why don't ibl lights cause reflections?

Other 3D programs do not treat IBL the same way. They take it a step further. Built into those tools is the envelopment of your scene in a giant virtual sphere with that image attached. Then that sphere is consulted in reflection and the specular lighting effect and the diffuse lighting effect.

Poser only uses it for diffuse lighting effects.

If you use my environment sphere, you can also get Poser to use it for reflections.

The last (and very important) component, the specular lighting effect, is a problem. The only way to get it, as far as I know, is to use a blurred version of the panorama and attach it in the material of an object, with the Sphere_Map node.


Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
