Have a look at this one.

The reference color I subtract is brighter than all the colors in the color map. Which means this is producing a field of entirely negative colors. You can't see them. The preview of the subtract node looks uniformly black. But that is just because the values are hidden below 0 where we can't "see" them. But I know they are there, I know what I'm doing with them (multiplying by 1.7), and they sure have an impact when added to the other reddish color.


Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
