Some good recommendations in the posts above.  I'd also recommend the free VSS (See the thread in this forum.) even though I have some problems getting it to work for me.  (Probably my issue alone.)  BaginsBill knows his stuff.

I'd also recommend the Elite texture/shader packs over at Daz.  They're really good out of the box.  The V4 Realism kit is a good easy python settings-and-one-click shader solution as well.

IMO, as long as you have a "decent" skin texture, you can fiddle with it and do a good job on your lighting and it will be just fine.  IMO, the differences between "good" and "great" aren't really noticeable until you start doing close-up work.  If you're not doing a lot of close-ups, then your lighting is going to be much more important than the base texture.

NOTE: Just to add, a few vendors consistently seem to have excellent textures.  RebelMommy,   Thorne/Sarsa/et al., Danie/Morfino  .. I am sure there are others but these are the only ones I have experience with that really stick out in my mind.
