ice-boy you know that SSS makes the skin lighter and you've been using it in VSS. And indeed you've seen the glow coming from the tip of the nose before. But that's not in the dark.
Emitting more light than would happen by direct reflection alone is not glowing - that's SSS and we are trying to do that.
What I mean by glow, here, is that if you turn off all your lights, a VSS shader will be black, unlike the V4/M4 shader discussed here.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
