Quote - I used to shut my computer down every night until a very smart friend of mine told me it's actually better and less costly than we think to keep it running Ever since then, my desktop runs all day/night. Once in a while I reboot.
I don't drink coffee. That'll cover the cost!
It's "better" only in that hardware problems commonly occur on bootup as the power is juiced on and coursing through the mainboard/components.
I shut my computer down just about every night. If I don't do a total shutdown, I put it in "Standby" mode so everything remains loaded and power is shut down to most components. It's very rare when I leave it on all day/night.
I also never, ever leave my modem on 24/7/365. Too many people leave their computer on, hooked up live to the 'net. Not smart and serves no purpose unless you have huge updates you're having to download and are on dialup or something.
PS - "Not" drinking coffee is bad for your computer... or something like that.. .well.. .it's just bad in general, k? Drink more coffee. It's good for you.. and stuff.
