I actually processed it in Photoshop 7, but I was able to follow your instructions, nonetheless.  You are correct!  Somehow in processing, the data was lost.  I've opened other images that had the data attached when I posted it, and it's there.  (I didn't know about that function in Photoshop - thanks!) 

Mystery solved.

Well, at least that level of the mystery is solved!  Now I can focus on what's going on in Photoshop.  I'll process something and check it at each turn.
