I have this happen on odd occasions too but I can't remember what I did that caused it.

Has anyone raised a ticket at e-on about this ?

The best workaround until it's fixed which is what I do on complicated ecosystems is to SAVE your ecosystem material before you do something else.  Then if it does go poof, just reload it
