Yes, Fran hover the mouse cursor over the brush in the palette and the name of the brush should appear. Also if you right mouse click  on the brush a window will drop down to ask you if you want to eighter rename a brush or delete a brush, pick rename. This will show you the present name of the brush then cancel out without renaming the brush.
