... and their answer was absurd. 

Try asking them if the bulb can be replaced with one with Color Temperature 5600K (or thereabouts).  Tell them you are shooting with flash with the softlights as fill-in.  Also ask what can be done to get the softlight boxes to have color temperature of 5600K instead of 3200K. 

If they don't understand the question you should NEVER buy anything ... not even a postage stamp ... from them again.
