Good question. Here's a suggestion that may help.
Try using the Orthographic cameras, e.g., Front, Back, Left, Right, Top, Bottom.
First use the Front Camera: - Change xTran to move the object right (+) or left (-)
Next, use the Top Camera:
Now use the Main Camera and rotate around the object to make sure the position is correct.
Also, check out the tutorial on "Posing Hands."
It may have something that might help you.
