The first place I would point you is to Practical Poser 7 by our own DeeCee. It takes you into Poser at an english level, not technospeak, and gives you some really good help on how to use the program.
Secondly, there are pre-teen and teen figures over at DAZ and you can learn to make your own characters without them being unrealistic.
