Here's what I do, and it's never failed:
It's that simple. The Collect Scene Inventory script copies all geometries and textures required and creates a .pz3 file. Occasionally, depending how your runtimes are configured, it will fail to locate a particular file (usually geometry files) but this doesn't seem to matter.
When importing into Vue, I turn off the resizing option. If it's not an animation, make sure you choose the single frame option when importing.
NB I thoroughly recommend SkinVue 7 if you don't already have it.
EDIT: And as thefixer says, .OBZ files are a no-no. Uncompress them.
