heyas; the mountains look the same to me. they have the new 3d preview, real-time 3d paint-on-'em thing. but the functions and terrain types are all the same, still. really, only the editor interface has changed. and, of course, there's symmetrical terrains. i didnt notice any new materials, either. not for landscapes. there are some more plants, but i havent messed with them much.
I'm confused... by the screen captures at e-on, it seemed to be showing that the mountains would be mapped more like in bryce - by altitude. Not? Just the mesh/mountain editor is changed? oh...rats! So, IS there a eucalyptus tree?? Thank you, Rich, that is a pretty cherry tree...although I thought cherry trees have rather slender trunks?! At least the ones I see on TV of the cherry trees in Washington, and in Japan... Are the trunk/branches in any way editable? Sara
heyas; varian: what new features? sparkel: if you want bryce-style 'whole mountain' materials, check out my site, because i made two of them. the terrain editor now uses gradient maps you can choose (okay, that's a new feature) to view what you're doing as you edit the terrain. you can still only clip the bottom, though, not the top or any middle sections.
Bloodsong, click the upper-left button to put the terrain into 3D perspective and start carving or building. There's a huge difference from the previous version. I think it's part of that OpenGL stuff. My prior puter had a difficult time keeping up with it, but my new system handles it just fine. There was another new thing...or I thought there was. But I can't find it now. Something related to material-mapping. I'm going to have to poke around to find out what I think I thought it was. (izzat a sentence?) ;)
heyas; oh yeah, the 3d preview. thats new. you can load a gradient instead of using the default preview gradient. the dig/raise/etc thing now has an airbrush/paintbrush mode. but the terrain generation thingies are the same (mounds, dunes, lunar), you can't rotate them. you can't make stuff go to the edges of the terrain. you can still x2 and /2. the raise/dig/etc are the same. the erosions are the same. the grit/pebbles/trees/cracks etc are the same. which isn't bad. i thought they coulda improved them, or added to them, but.... ::

Hello all... I have been watching all the posts..and I would like to ask a favor..would someone (or two or three) post an image (WITHOUT ANY VOLUME ANYTHING) of some of the new mountains - the new way the mountains map, and new mountain materials if any.. and if possible, put the same material on the ground as the mountain, so I can see how well it goes from one to the other? (oh, sorry for that terrible long sentence!!) And one more favor... Could I pretty please see some new trees?? I THINK there is supposed to be a eucalyptus? I really don't care about all the volume stuff.. I love my vue 3's skies and clouds.. but I am most interested in the new terrain editor/mountains and the mountain materials, and trees! Thanks so much, in advance! Sara
