Hi Mike. I really would want the head and all the parts oriented on vertical and horizontal axis and placed in an upright orientation. I would want the head a integer factor resolution from the body (say 1:2). Here is a texture template that makes sense to me. With textures up to 4000x4000 I don't see why everything should not be on a single square map even if there is a little empty space which peopl can use for tattoos, genitals, or other custom stuff.
