So what error do you get when you try to install (if any) or play the video? And what player are you trying to use ? Did you try that media player classic thing that alt. quicktime installs ?

Also note that you can't use any 64 bit player or tool to work with quicktime as it is 32 bits. Only 32 bit ones will work, even if you run them under XP 64.
