A bit OT, but I also find it interesting that Direct3D 11 is adding the capability to basically do the same type of Polygon Smoothing that the FireFly engine (Reyes renderer) does - but directly in hardware by the gfx card (ie. breaking triangles up into mini-bezier patches).(read down to where they start talking about PN Triangles - this is effectively what Poser does)
