It is much, much, much harder to get a conforming item to reproduce exactly the shape of a large set of dial-spun morphs, than it is to get it to fit a single morph target. The more separate morph targets you incorporate into a given character, the less likely it is that any conforming clothing item will fit properly even if all the character's morphs are implemented in the clothing item. Your best bet may be to do what you're already doing, work with Wardrobe Wizard or some alternative like Morphing Clothes.
It can also greatly simplify things to spawn a single morph target in the character figure first, and then fit clothing to that single morph target (see svdl's spawncharacter.py python script in the freestuff section here).
