I think I was the one who English Bob referred to above. This is a very simple thing to do once you know how.

First, model your chain (I use Wings but any modelling prog will be similar) Just make one link and duplicate and position till you have enough.

You also need a ribbon the same length as the chain. The important thing is that it must have one polygon per chain link with the joints at the junction between chain links.
