Well, a good texture is hard to find often. If you have a scanner at home, I suggest you scan a slice of bread. This gives you the resolution you choose and it gives you a more or less shadow bias free texture sample. I scan everything from stones to leaves from the nearby park to human skin all for the purpose of CG renders.
I wonder if volumetrics could be used to produce bread? Seems possible.
