Subject: Poser 5 Versus Vista

DelsArt ( ) posted Sat, 20 June 2009 at 3:37 PM · edited Sat, 02 November 2024 at 7:50 AM

This has prob been asked lots of times but I've just come back to Poser... My Poser 4 works fine with Vista but my Poser 5 brings up an error message saying the program requires certain Dlls to run - reboot or reinstall. I've rebooted and reinstalled to no avail. Any way to get Poser 5 to run with Vista? (Both original purchased programs not cracked copies etc).

Thanks for any help.

does the error list out the dll that it cant find ?

You can right click on the exe file and use compatibility mode but I doubt that will help

No it just says DLLs - I've right clicked the exe file and ran in compatibility mode - also made sure I'm running as administrator.. all didn't work. I've googled the problem and basically learned that lots of people had the same problem and at the time there seemed to be no answer. Hoping by now someone would have solved it... Thanks for you reply

what DLL's is it naming?

Its not specifcally naming ant DLL it just said "Various DLLs".
Now there are a lot of DLLs in the runtime folder - should the install have out them somewhere else?

A shot in the dark here, did you install Poser to the Program Files folder & have you switched off UAC(user account control)?

My own story, I loaded Poser in the Xp compatibility mode) to my Programs Files X86 section and finally got it to run with cliching.  The first couple of time I did it, didn't work right.  What I finally did:  Completely uninstalled Poser, went through everything manually to get rid of bits and pieces, used McAfee files cleaner and clean mgr then defragged, (had several cups of coffee along the way, threathened to condemn Vista to the very depths of Hadies, loaded it in Compatability mode, opened it in compatability mode and it now works fine.  Other folks state that placing it directly in your root directory works too.  Loading it to an external drive is a big no-no (tried that too).  Jan

I'm running Vista Business and installed P5 to the harddrive on its own outside of the Program Files (either one). Been working fine along my P6 installed "normally".

Granted, I don't use P5 much anymore, but it's behaved normaly when I've opened it.
