For lighting (fake GI) in Carrara, the free light dome from Tim Payne that is very easy to use can be found at:

The light dome is much faster and easier on resouces than true GI, and gives what I think are good results (see my attempt with it at the link below).

Poser materials almost always need to be adjusted in Carrara, and usually need to be "tuned" to the lights you are using.
