LOL I hear what you're saying. Nevertheless, the Poser manual is so bad, I'd hardly recommend it as a definition of anything in Poser.

For example, while searching through the manual for the phrase "material group", just so's I know what the manual claims on this subject, I encountered this beautifully incoherent and wrong statement in the second paragraph of Chapter 9: Lighting. (I bolded the insane part)

Lights can also help you create effects. For example, you could add a reflection map to an element in your scene, causing it to direct light back at the source. Please refer to the Poser Tutorial Manual, “Groups” for an explanation of material groups and to Part 4: “Materials” on page 301 for information on creating material shaders for your scene elements.

A reflection map has nothing to do with lighting, IMO, but here we find this lovely statement in the introduction to lights, telling us that on the subject of lights, you can add a reflection map to an element in your scene. Hmmm. Then the end of the sentence is mind blowing: causing it to direct light back at the source. Ha! HAHA! Nothing in Poser can direct light at anything except a light, and certainly not a reflection map.

So spare me the pointers to the manual, LOL. I just spent a couple days explaining to people at the Daz forum that they cannot use bounce diffusers in Poser to soften the lighting from a single light source. It's crap like this that confuses the hell out of people.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
