Dah, normally a server can only serve so many bites down a pipe per second. Processor speed, disk speed, switch speed, router speed, and the final pipe to the outside world all effect how fast a page will load. When there are millions and millions of people trying to access Gordon's latest world famous toon all at the same time, one of the items mentioned above is going to be the bottle neck and cause the site to be slow until the traffic dies down. 

So either Gordon had more people trying to access is extremely popular toons that his server-connection couldn't handle all the traffic :thumbupboth:

or

Some russian script-kiddies were trying to see if they could hack his server and take control and turn it into a spam bot.  

Knowing how popular Gordon's toons are with the masses, it was probably the later! :laugh:
