Subject: C6Pro to C7Pro

Kathye ( ) posted Sun, 26 July 2009 at 1:44 AM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 6:57 AM

I bought C5Pro but just after the upgrade to C6Pro I pretty much stopped doing graphics due to RL issues.  I still want to get back into it and have been getting a new computer ready to get going once RL setltles down in near future.

I just saw in my email that I could get the C6 to C7Pro upgrade for 48 dollars at Daz.  Can anyone tell me if it's good to take this offer?  I've been out of the scene so long I don't know what improvements there've been and have forgotten so much I'll pretty much have to start from scratch learning the software again whatever I do.

Thanks for any advice.
Kathy

was that C6 to C7 or C6 Pro to C7 Pro?  Seems like a very good price, but make sure your ending up with the version you want if you want pro.  I know its on the last few days of the sale.

Hi Kathye - that is definitely a good deal :) and when 8 comes out, you'll be able to get that at a good discount as well.
I love C7Pro compared to the old versions - content works much better than before, either loaded directly from your runtime directory, or imported from DazStudio (which has dynamic clothing now).
There have been so many improvements there are too many to list here, but for $48 it's definitely worth it. My favorite feature in C7Pro is the dynamic hair - it's so versatile and very realistic once you get the hang of it. There is also 3d painting, including layers for photoshop, displacement, bump, alpha, etc.

Here is a link to a video I did testing the Daz Dynamic Clothing imported to Carrara, including a Dynamic Hair simulation as well :)

Hope this helps :)

Thanks, that does help to hear a positive review of it.  I remember C6 getting a lot of criticism when it was first released.  I just did the currency conversion and even with the exchange rate being much worse than it used to be it's still only 30GBP.  Just have to live up to my promise to myself to get back into it.  I did Mark Bremmer's C5 course so will have to sign up to VTC again I think.

My mistake, just looked at the offer again and that was the price of the ordinary Carrara not the Pro.  Makes the decision a tad harder again.

At least you have until 7-31-09 to decide :)

It's still worth the price.  7 is much more stable, especially under a 64Bit OS, and it's rock solid under Windows 7.  I was kind of lucky, I had lost me original 6 Pro media, and had to re-purchase it.  Fortunately, I managed to find someone who had it for sale on eBay.   I bought 6 Pro there, then the same day, DAZ announced the upgrade sale which was absolutely perfect timing.  It ended up costing me a total of just over $300 for both, but it's a lot better than the normal price.  The extra tols and better stability are worth it.  Now, if they could just put in a search feature to the content library so I could ditch Advanced Library for Poser, it would be perfect.

I use a lot of poser content and it is dramatically easier to work with in C7 than in C6. I found the pro version worth the extra $. When you see how easy it is to work with C7, you will find it a lot easier getting back into 3D.

Thanks all for your input.  I went for it and bought it.  It's going to take me DAYS to download all the stuff that comes with it :D

Congrats! At least your starting after it's been updated twice :) Go 7.2!!!!!

which did you go with (not that it matters, more curiosity) C7 or C7 Pro?

Kathye ( ) posted Mon, 27 July 2009 at 5:25 PM

I stuck with the Pro.  It was what I chose originally when I bought C5 so it seemed a bit of a waste to backtrack now.

cool :) figured you would, was more a curious question

Kathye ( ) posted Tue, 28 July 2009 at 12:43 AM

No worries :) and all being well you'll probably be seeing more of me when I start getting deep enough into it for questions ;)  Still got several more days of downloading to go yet I think. :D

Ahhh, the wonderful world of Broadband...  It took me about 5 minutes.  I take it you are on Dial Up?

ADSL but still seems horrendously slow here.  I think our telephone exchange has been having problems for the last couple of months, takes me ages to connect sometimes.  Says a lot for living on the edge of Scotland's 'capital' city (rolls eyes)
