I have similar problems and I think it is best to go  back to 7.2.1. You can try out - this helped me a bit - is to change the preferences for display and change your settings "Enable Background Draw" to the opposite as it is right now.

Shooting down the application is not the worst that can happen, what goes onto my nerves is that often the whole system is corrupted and needs to be restarted the hard way.
