Subject: V4 Clothing for V3

STRAFE52 ( ) posted Sun, 09 August 2009 at 9:04 PM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 3:45 AM

Is there any way to convert V4 clothing to conform to V3 that will also be able to open using Poser Pro Pack since a lot of the V4 clothing Requires PoserPro or above. Thank you for any responses.

You can use CrossDresser or Wardrobe Wizard to convert V4 clothes to V3. If the V4 clothing requires PP and you have PP then I don't see what your problem could be.

It's not the tool used, it's the tool using it

There is no reason why clothes for V4 require Poser Pro.

But indeed there were MAT pose files for PP - for clothes and skin, but that was meant for Pro Pack, which some people call falsely Poser Pro.

Tthe Pro Pack (released in 2000) was an add on for Poser 4.

Before that *.bum files existed that are today *.jpg files, those who work as bump maps.

So it means if you use a very old Poser version that requires *.bum files (before Pro Pack) you cannot use today's clothes for V4.

I thought there was a way to convert jpegs to .bum files so you could use them in earlier versions.

Yeah... a transparency map for the rear end.

There are so many free image convertors around on the web, I'd be very surprised if you couldn't find something to convert with.

"I thought there was a way to convert jpegs to .bum files so you could use them in earlier versions."

Poser 4 will convert .jpg to .bum if you load the .jpg manually in the material editor as opposed to using a MAT .pz2 file. You will get poor results however from using a .bum created from a gray scale .jpg intended for P4 Pro Pack and later.

Poser 4 can use .jpg bump maps if you convert them. Here's a link to that explains the process along with a PhotoShop action or instructions on how to do it manually in any image editor that supports channels. You can then use the .jpg's and the MAT files that refer to them and not have the huge .bum files.

Other than the bump map issue, there's no reason why any of the clothing shouldn't work in P4 as long as it's not Dynamic clothing, which will only work in P5 and above. You may well lose any procedural shaders used to change the color, etc. of the piece but it will work otherwise  Poser will ignore the extra stuff it doesn't understand. The same is true for Daz Studio, so the requirements while not completely inaccurate can be a bit misleading. If in doubt, contact the vendor and ask them specifically which features if any won't work.
