I missed this year, but having been to several Siggraph shows, I have to say not hearing from anyone about what you see is understandable.  The show is overwhelming!  You see so many cool things and new ideas/software.  When you get back home and people ask what you though of it, all you can think is how great it was, but it's all a blur.

A full ticket to Siggraph is over $600 for students.  The free passes only let you into the show floor.  There are a few other areas you can tickets for, but it's not cheep.
