Subject: Antonia - Opinions?

RorrKonn ( ) posted Sun, 09 August 2009 at 7:42 AM

Quote - I spoke to one of the top content vendors in a chat here. I won't say who. She claimed she makes about $50K a year and doesn't do any other work anymore. But she's one who cranks out 3 to 8 new items every week. She can model a hair or pair of boots in minutes, because she is truly expert after having done it for thousands of hours.

All I can say is, if you can write software, then write software instead of making content (for money) because I don't know a single engineer who makes less than $100K a year and they do not work as many hours as this woman does. Of course I'm in New England, where software is king.

Anyway, if you can make software, make content for love, not money.

Thanks a lot bb

Money makes life able to be lived in our technical civilalization.  I wish I had the talents and skill and training to do quick meshes, and programing.  As such, if I can make enough money to pay a light bill, I can keep my internet hooked up and pay on rent, too.

Yeah, you owe him an outfit for ANtonia.  You hijacker, you!  We went along, too, so I'll get busy as soon as the next mesh is up!.  I HAVE an outfit ready to be converted to Antonia as soon as I finish the shoes.

Well, I fixed my little grouping problem and started to load morphs into the new version of the high-poly mesh. The old morphs still works, and now so do the new ones. Hooray!

But it's getting a bit late here in down under, so I won't be able to finish today. I'll see how much I can get done over the week.

And I agree with BB. It's easy to make good money in software if you're good (and sometimes even if you're lousy). It's much harder to pay the bills doing art. I've known enough struggling artist types to know.

So, what happens when we reach page 100? Will the space-time continuum implode? The Cylons reveal their plan? Will Godot arrive? Should I start a new thread to prevent it, maybe with a more informative title, such as "Antonia - an free, original Poser figure that sprang from the head of the Renderosity community"?

Question. Will it become available to the public in some way?

Fascinating to see this figure's progress. Best of luck with all the work on it.

Okay, the JCMs are all applied to the new mesh. As you can see, the elbow problem that Joel noticed disappears in the high-poly version.

I dialed the breasts to half-way between the old and new shape here and also dialed back the original nipple and labia shapes.

So, I'll do some more testing over the rest of the week and put together a runtime for the new preview. I think by the weekend I should be ready to upload.

BTW, this is rendered in P8 again, this time without indirect lighting. I have to say, even the IDL is still a bit flaky, the "normal" renders seem much faster now and produce better quality even at relatively low settings. For that alone, and the new library interface, I'd say it was totally worth it's 130 dollars.

I think Antonia already makes V4 look like a stick figure in terms of posing, and of course the default look is not comparable for realism.

I must admit that I was not too captivated by the image of Antonia in the first post of this thread, but after seeing the image on page 99 I can only say WOW, she is a real stunner. I very much like the new breast and leg shapes.

I have downloaded the "Antonia Full Preview 2009-04-14". I have not had much time to play with her, but my first impressions are that you have done an excellent job on the joints, she seems to bend very well (why can't DAZ do that?). I look forward to the new preview release with eager anticipation.

Why Can't DAZ do that?
They can.....but they want....no.....NEED....a captive an repeat long term consumer base. They need to keep that base only partially satisfied with their limited releases so that by the time third party creators jump in to fill the terrible gaps of what they seemingly created, they offer another bigger better and oh by the way----equally short of perfect offering...fixing some things from predecessor and breaking others...Ad Infinitum!
I think in some circles outside of this persnikity and lovingly addicted Poser Community that course of action would be considered "Good Business Sense"!

When someone like ODF and some others create something this nice and get no or very little support the Big Boyz are grateful!
As we should be...but I think for different reasons.
Personally I am grateful folks like ODF and others here and in the community are willing to stretch their creativity and offer gems like this. Thanks man and though I am mortified I can't wrap my tired ole head around the concept of modeling  enough to make my own offerings or help with yours, , I thank you for that effort and this offering!

Yep, I agree with RorrKonn. Different goals, different outcomes! I think there's a pretty good range of shape-shifting that we can do with Antonia, but it was never my intention to have her look good as both She-Hulk or ET's little sister. I'd say she's somewhat middle ground between the highly specialized meshes that are generally used in the film and games industry and the "one size fits all" approach typical for the Poser world.

Well, granted V4 is more versatile that way (hardly necessary), though I doubt it was the idea in product development to turn her into a male bodybuilder - which I'm not even sure is possible with her, anyway.

But let's take M4 as an example - although you can make him a female via a third party product, I don't think he was built with that purpose in mind. But his limitations are almost as much as V4's - and that's even though he was released several years later.

I suspect, though, that if someone were so inclined and had that aim, they could do a lot of things with Antonia's mesh along those lines too, even if not to the same degree. I just don't think that particularly interests anyone here.

Anyone, I think the difference of product vision with V4 compared to Antonia is less about versatility than about CG idealized babe factor.  :)

FWIW.

odf, that last image looks good, although just a wee bit too glossy in spots (most of her looks great)... almost getting the plastic look back.

Yep, I've seen this with other people's renders, as well. The rules change when you have more realistic lighting. Good skin shaders (and good settings) become even more important. So far I'm fighting with the lights and render settings. Fine-tuning of the skin will follow later.

m3 , v3  ,a3 & was all the same unimesh.
if i am thinking correctly the freak and millennium kids are the same unimesh also.
so thay had one mesh that would go from a male body builder to a skiny girl to monsters to a cartton to a ect ect.

i do not know why daz released m4 after v4.
i do know thay could create v5,m5 in a few weeks and in a few weeks latter release v6,m6 few weeks latter v7,m7 ect ect if thay wanted.

the v3,m3,the freak,a3, millennium kids , unimesh mesh was never modeled to be sub divided
even has tri's in it, tri's do not sub divied well in certain apps.

http://64.234.196.28/RK_Tutorial/RK_Sub_D_Quads.htm

v4 was modeled to be sub divided + all quads no tri's.
will sub divide in any app :)
D/S has a quad sub divide system :)
