Subject: Anyway to turn OFF the floating windows?

Heres the thing, I do a webcomic called Android, and I usually use just two panels per page set at 800x500 pixels. Occasionally I'll also do a full page and the Cover is always a full page. Problem is, that for the moment at least, I'm still having to render in P7 because P8 won't let me control the scene window size unless the window is undocked and floating.

I can make the window float and control the size, but then I have to offset it from the center of the screen or else it automatically re-docks and flares out to the largest window size  available. Which means that my window is usually obscuring one of the other pallets, which basically kind of defeats the whole purpose of redesigning the GUI if you ask me.

If I'm getting  your question right - the answer is pretty simple. In the upper right corner of the window are the docking controls pop-up. If you toggle off "enable docking" no matter where you drag the window it won't re-dock. That state change will be persistent every time you open up Poser or any room with that state chosen.

thinkcooper's answer is correct, but I'd add that for precision you can always choose to render to a new window with a specified size

Render dimension command is Ctrl-Alt-D on the PC

My impression is that he's not just concerned about the size of the render but that of the preview window.

Thanks Steve,

Although I do believe I tried that and it didn't work, it's possible I goofed something up so I'll try again.

Thanks for your answer too, Crocodillian.

Steve had it right. It's about where I can drag the preview window around. Right now, even if I undock it, it has to be slightly offset from the center or it will re-dock and enlarge. Which means I have to position everything all over again.

"Right now"? You mean, before Steve told you how to keep it from auto-docking, right?

I figured that one out, but I am having strange interface problems. Like the Talk Designer window displaying when I never keep it on, and the material window showing up in the background of the pose window. Very weird.

It means I haven't re-tried what Steve said to do yet. At this moment, I still have P7 open, and don't want to shut it down while I'm still working.

Hey, Steve, thanks again for the tip! I just tried what you told me and the window is working fine now. Able to drag it any where I wish. Don't know what button I thought I hit before, but it obviously wasn't the one you suggested.

It hink some of it is an OpenGL problem. I have the Material Room pop up partially (all jumbled) when I click Render - or sometimes it's Photoshop, which also uses OpenGL who takes over the screen. Mosttimes it's the Material Room though. It's a little annoying, but.. I just chalked it down to an OpenGL quirk.

Hold down the Ctrl key while dragging to stop any pane from docking.
