Subject: Value for $$ clothing vendors

Believable3D ( ) posted Sun, 23 August 2009 at 7:53 PM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 6:32 AM

I'm curious to hear what experienced users have to say regarding clothing vendors as far as good quality products (meshes, textures, morphs, realistic, ease of use etc) for a nice price. (In other words, I'm not asking whether a clothing model is ever "worth" $30 if it's good enough - doubtless it is, but I'm asking about value-priced stuff. Say, under $10 max unless it's a bundle.)

I'm aware of folks such as Hongyu who seems to give good bang for the buck, although most of his (?) products are skimpy styles or underwear, whereas I'm primarily interested in everyday/casual clothing. (I guess kobamax would fit in here.)

I've been tracking everyday wear almost from the beginning of my 3D life (which began almost exactly a year ago), as reflected on this ever-expanding page: www.believable3d.com/resources/everyday-clothing.php So I'm aware of a fair amount of what's available (though certainly only a fraction of what would qualify, no doubt). But although I've spent a fair amount of time with 3D over the past year, a lot of it has been character work and so I've spent less hours handling clothing figures than one might think. So I'd like to hear from folks who are using clothing items (especially everyday wear) constantly who their favourite value-priced clothing creators are.

While I'm at it: any opinions on royloo's clothing? Content Paradise has a bunch of clothing items that are reasonably priced (I think moved over from Poser Pros, which if I understand correctly, closed down) and a few items are much the sort of thing I would buy (e.g. Unisex Xtra suit or SF32). I've also been a member of Poser World twice (can't get much cheaper than that!) and have bought quite a few items from 9mbi... but I don't really know how experienced users view the quality of their work.

Please: I'm not asking for a hammering session if you don't care for an artist's stuff. But an honest experienced opinion of who you think gives good value for money in the field of everyday wear (especially for V4 and M4), and what it is about their products that demonstrates their quality.

Any takers?

I never go wrong purchasing from 9mbi. I love their everyday, casual look and the clothing is top notch quality IMO. They come with many built in morphs too. And you can't beat the price!!!!

Wish there were more textures for their stuff but still very pleased.

I've always found royloo's clothing to be very, very nice :o).

Thanks for that link. This is a time saver!

If I am to buy clothing, what I really want is to get bundles like, "Office clothing bundle for M4/V4" with different styles. And it SHOULD include the shoes too.

There are a few freebies on there. Not a lot, though....

I also jump all over everyday clothes. Which besides 9mbi, not as much as I would like. Therefore if I see something I really like, I will use morphing clothes and add morphs I might need that are not included. Use either WW2 or XD and convert to the character I need it for. Then if needed use Stitch Witch to make textures if needed. Granted I do convert a lot of figure cloth to props to use in the cloth room.

A lot of work, but I will go to that trouble for everyday clothes. Something skimpy, I will not spend that time and look carefully at morphs, texture packs and add ons more carefully before I buy.
Kobamax also has some everyday clothes, that converts very well from V3 to V4

It is a shame that more vendors do not offer everyday clothing. It's tough to find garments for V4 actually living her life. Yet, if you look at the latest release pages here at Rendo, you'd think the girl spends most of her time fulfilling M4's fetish desires. I would suspect that a great everyday package would sell well, but what do I know?

One particular area that is woefully lacking is shoes other than high heels. V4's calves must be killing her. Where are the low heels and flats that most "real" girls wear?

Poserworld does offer a large amount of "regular" clothing, but you have to be ready to add the morphs yourself, as they are always a bit thin. But then, that's what Morcloth is for!!!!

Especially significant because there is only one single figure who's feet does not look weird when bent for high heels: Antonia.
Idler made some nice high quality "casual leisure shoes" without heels for V3 and V4.

Yeah so would I. But unfortunately that is not the case. People are always asking for "everyday clothes" - but when it comes down to actually buying it.. they shy away for some reason.

Most vendors then make stuff they know will sell instead. Like fetish wear. Never underestimate the pr0n crowd ;)

I would wish there were more "normal" clothes btw.

I've made a pack of pretty normal clothes for the G2 women - for free - and also the V4 morphing Librarian clothing set I did recently is (at least if you don't use the morph) very "everyday" - that one is free as well btw. But even as freebies the "normal" clothes doesn't "sell" as much as the more risky stuff.

yep, nothing better than a set of leather or , better, yet, vinyl straps, or thongs and a skimpy see through bra.

There were some pretty decent clothing items for M3 over at RDNA. they could be refit using Wardrove Wizard for M4.

Well, I would think that my everyday clothing list shows that the notion V4 doesn't have any (or very little) is a bit of a myth. Of course, if you're making a quantitative comparison to how much "non-normal" clothing is available, I'll grant you that. I've found a lot of everyday clothing (and yes, I have purchased a LOT of it); knowing what offers good quality and value is another story. And I always download the freebies when I find them, too, assuming they look like they're good enough quality for me to want to render. (Speaking of which, I loaded up Kirwyn's EZcasual freebie for the very first time yesterday - what a beautiful sweater.)

 Interesting.

I must be a minority of one. I just looked through my v4 runtime. Fully 80% of what I have is "everyday" clothing. Yes, I have swimsuits and undies for her, but that's about as fetish as I go. My own votes with my $ have been for "normal" clothing. If the vendors have to go to fetish to make a buck, they sure ain't makin' it off of me!!! :)

Believable3D ( ) posted Tue, 25 August 2009 at 12:57 AM

Me neither. I have a few sets of normal undergarments. I downloaded a couple thong-type freebies, but not many, and certainly never spent $$ on anything like that. Pretty much everything else is either everyday/casual, or "normal" "dress-up" clothing.

I have to agree regarding 9MBi's stuff, we do a lot of textures for his items at 3DA because frankly I like to texture what I would actually wear (although that said I do texture pants, but I don't wear them).

royloo of course as well.  When you add hongyu to the mix you see a pattern as all of these are asian vendors and they all offer quality items with a more than fair price tag.

Hey! Glad to see you here. I notice you sell textures for Royloo's SF15... any idea where I can buy the clothing? I can find a few texture sets here and there, but since the closing of Poser Pros, I can't find the clothing itself.

Just a little reply from me....... When I originally got Poser 4 it was just for work purposes to create silhouettes for vinyl cutting. Later I side tracked and progressed into making a few hobby comics. These days I have been using it in my design work for safety posters and digital printed workplace signs. Definitely these designs require everyday type wear and often I resort  to G2 characters, even sometimes P4 in the background as their wardrobes are pretty ordinary. It would be nice to use third and fourth gen Daz figures but hard to find non fantasy outfits especially as freebies. There is a place for more real life clothes but as trekkiegirl explained it is not where the money is. The website link was appreciated and I'll check it out thoroughly later tonite.

Will everyday clothing for v4 really be that big of a seller? I'm a new vendor and would love to know what you guys would wanna buy, I'm mean are we talking tshirts, blouse, slacks, running shoes?  We talking the ann taylor, or ann taylor loft? Neiman marcus, or nike?

Again, I'm a noob in this department!

To say that NO ONE buys "regular" clothes is not accurate. I've personally got over $7000 in my poser runtimes, having purchased the majority of the "normal" clothing here for all Gen 3 and 4 characters, male and female. I don't know what more I can personally do to support the modelers! :)

 My own needs are:

  1. Office Wear... preferably professional casual.
  2. Blouse/slacks sets that meet at the waist (no crop-tops!) Something a college girl would wear when not in "boy hunt" mode.
  3. SHOES... anything BUT high heels. Running shoes, flats, low heels... anything casual.
  4. Dresses that can be worn at times other than evenings... i.e. not cut to show 3/4 of the breasts, and not form-fitted to the point that they look sprayed on.
  5. A nice coat, a la London Fog for the ladies would be appreciated (and purchased by me)

In short, anything BUT the fetish wear that is the majority of what's offered.

In the terns you've used: More Ann Taylor Loft and Nike (but please, no sweats!)

My $.02

Ooooooo yes! V4 wearing Ann Taylor in a temple with a sword :thumbupboth:

I would pay dearly for a nice pants suit for V4, with several different tops. A simple shell, a cowl neck top, a turtleneck top, etc. to add create different looks, with pocket and collar variations on the jacket. Then UV map to add trim colors on the collar and sleeve cuff of the jacket. I think the term is called piping, but I am not 100 percent sure.

PS... what set is this... not sure I own it!!!!!! Love the creases!!!!

basicwiz ( ) posted Wed, 26 August 2009 at 12:23 PM

 One other note:

While I appreciate a well-done freebee, I'm only too willing to pay for something I really want. We all need to realize that freebees fall into two classifications: 1. It's not good enough to sell, or 2. It's a hook to get you to look at the creator's commercial work.

Don't berate the first... you got what you paid for, and if it's of use to you, you are money ahead.

DO partonize the stores of the second group. They gave you something for nothing. You should check their stores first to see if there's something there you need, and cheerfully pay for it.

Again, my $.02, less the beating the dollar has taken this year.
