thanks cherryman everyone loves a good rendertime ....or not lol! the textures were very mixed. I used that displacement metal grid with rocky textures to create a lot of terrain. the scene at the begining took 55 hours no displacement but seriously high detail. The rendertime for the ship across the rocky landscape contained lots of diplacement took about 72 hours for 7 maybe 8 seconds of footage.. i am sure i could have cut that rendertime! some of the scenes at the begining i set to broadcast to render them and they went farly fast . after alot of reading about user settings i began using a variation of silverblades suggestions. the scene with the guy standing up against the blue sky ... (prob one of the more detailed ones) was about 24 hours to render that was animated skin and lots of displacement, quality maxed out as far as i dared and the pc didnt crash for a change..winner!. the ship scene at end took 15 hours and the last shot about 30 hours. i rendered everything at 1200 x 900 ...the full resolution copy is so detailed its insane. if i had rendered at 800 x 600 would the quality on youtube dropped by much ? the whole thing took about 400 hours to render, with many a complaint from my girlfriend about the huge blue aura emitting from my pc as it was having a night render! hehe
