Thanks everyone, I didn't have a clue what it was about either lol  - so I don't take any offence there! My mate helped me mix it to the music my attempt was not very good at all . Glad you all liked it, I thought I was going to get laughed at !...once again thanks for all your hints and tips in helping me create it.

Very original work!

It looks like you had the texture's all set to world instead of object, that gives a cool effect!

Did u use displacement on the figures?  I ask this because of the render times. The picture quality is very good i was wondering how the rendertimes were?

Keep up the good work!

andrewbell ( ) posted Mon, 14 September 2009 at 5:21 PM

thanks cherryman everyone loves a good rendertime ....or not lol! the textures were very mixed. I used that displacement metal grid with rocky textures to create a lot of terrain. the scene at the begining took 55 hours no displacement but seriously high detail. The rendertime for the ship across the rocky landscape contained lots of diplacement took about 72 hours for 7 maybe 8 seconds of footage.. i am sure i could have cut that rendertime! some of the scenes at the begining i set to broadcast to render them and they went farly fast . after alot of reading about user settings i began using a variation of silverblades suggestions. the scene with the guy standing up against the blue sky ... (prob one of the more detailed ones) was about 24 hours to render that was animated skin and lots of displacement, quality maxed out as far as i dared and the pc didnt crash for a change..winner!. the ship scene at end took 15 hours and the last shot about 30 hours. i rendered everything at 1200 x 900 ...the full resolution copy is so detailed its insane. if i had rendered at 800 x 600 would the quality on youtube dropped by much ? the whole thing took about 400 hours to render, with many a complaint from my girlfriend about the huge blue aura emitting from my pc as it was having a night render! hehe

Very impressive, and especially to me a newbie (*or soon to be!!!) to vue animation. I have a question, it will sound stupid, did you render on one system or more? Did you farm it out? (*I don't know the correct term except I somewhat know that you can use outside render engines that host...)?

I have to say that it may have seemed to be non-sensical, but it resonated and that made it very intriguing. The ending was enigmatic!

Wow thanks Future Fantasy Design your comments mean a lot...I am not that far off a newbie I have only been using Vue for 3 or 4 months and poser for about 8 months- still have not learned how to control the damn camera properly yet and no idea of how to write a script! (notice how most scenes have basic camera movements).

Using 1 computer to render an i7 920 processor 6 gig ram . Recently I open two instances of Vue and render a scene from each it seems to work out more efficient this way cutting down the overall render time. If you need any hints just ask.... I have just learned how to change materials throughout an animation it was incredably easy but I had overlooked it - it gives me an idea for a future animation ;-) .

I have now worked out what my next animation is going to be .... No real story again unfortuntly;-)  but it is going to be a giant zigarat/pyramid surrounded by forest and rocks . There is going to be some kind of fighting going on at the top of pyramid with poser figures. As I mentioned before I rendered this at 1200 x 900 for my next animation I have been advised to go much lower and in some cases higher.
If I rendered this next animation at 320 x 240 is it going to look real bad?
I want it to look good when viewed on full screen not full of artifacts/blocks/noise.

Any help would be great any suggestions for effects to use in my animation I will be gratefull for also.

My main concern is what to render it at .... 1200 x 900 looks pretty lush but takes a long time to render.

I would render in a resolution which is somehow standard.

The most common HDTV standards come to mind:

720p: 1280×720 with 16:9 aspect ratio
1080p: 1920×1080 with 16:9 aspect ratio

Even the first one looks pretty good, and, very important, most players and/or converters know this format, so the aspect ratio won't be  changed on e.g. television screens.

I forgot all about setting the aspect ratio! I think I have it set to screen or something like that I am going to go with 720p: 1280×720 with 16:9 aspect ratio Thanks very much for clearing that up.
