What if you import the head to poser and overlay it - just to be absolutely sure you've got the right size and scale and placement and all.. I have a feeling that might be the problem - Poser's scale is miniscule compared to Max'

Now it's hard to know when I don't know what happened when you tried. Could you post a pic of what is wrong? PhilC's method should work if everything fits together as it should.
