This is a size of a cr2 file and not the memory used. Cr2 fules are text files and not binary and not allocated bytes of memory.
Rendering only needs some buffers and it doesn't matter the number of polygons of a mesh, what matters are the dimensions of the mesh, even so the memory used is not so big.
Subdivision doesn't use more memory and a z buffer render uses more memory than scan line or raytracing renders.
Do you want to know how much memory Vicky4 is using? Click CTL-ALT-DEL and look in the task manager and see it by yourself.
