Wait - you didn't tell me earlier that you had any runtimes in the Program Files. Under Vista UAC this is a protected area. It may be that you weren't getting a problem before SR1, but before SR1 it didn't find everything, either.

Please don't assume that my questions are not relevant just because you start seeing something different. I have a hundred possibilities I'm thinking about and I can't write the whole chain of investigation out for you. I need you to answer the questions and describe what you see.

First off, tell me accurately the full path to each of your runtimes. Because you didn't list any in Program Files before, but now you just said you have  "over sized, barely organized single runtime (which is in the program folder)." The locations of runtimes matters when UAC is involved.

Again:

List all runtimes - full path.

Do you know how to look in the Event Viewer? Did you look? What did you see?

Is Vista's UAC turned on? Just as an experiment, not a permanent solution, if it is on, try turning it off temporarily.

Is Vista's Indexing service turned on? As an experiment, not a permanent solution, try turning it off temporarily.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
