You could also have saved it as a scene file - double-clicking a scene file in the Content palette merges it with the current scene, and it would have the benefit of including surface settings and not loading any morphs (if you have them) until they are set to a non-zero value, neither of which is true for the cr2 (but the cr2 is usable in Poser, Carrara and others).
