Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
Poser's jpg exporter is beyond crappy. It's really useless, it compresses everything to a degree where even a blind man would cringe at the sight.
Use something else. And then convert it to jpg in another program. SlowView is great, and free. (or Photoshop et. al. of course if you've got those... but if you do, you probably wouldn't even consider saving as jpg from Poser in the first place...)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
My preference is PNG. This also saves transparency (alpha channel) in the image in the places where there is nothing in the scene to render. Useful if you want to superimpose a rendered figure or scene on a 2D background outside Poser.

I then tried to change the resolution to 300
Do you mean you changed the DPI setting to 300?
If this is what you meant, don't bother with it. DPI is only relevant for image printing processes, and makes no difference to exported image quality or file size.

FIRST , what size are you rendering ? exporting the image will only export what you rendered , so small render, small export. The jpg option includes compression options to allow a small jpg , or an uncomprssed jpg file.
The DPI setting only effects the print size used in some applications, worry about pixel counts.
If you are doing postwork then png is a good format , for immediate display jpg @ 75% works pretty well.
Yep, I bet that under your render dimensions you have the wrong settings, I'm betting they are 10 X 10. If you like the setting in Pose room, only larger you can enlarge your renderings proportions eg if your Pose room setting is 640 X 320, you can increase the final to 1024 X 768 etc. Rendering to .jpg is fine if you set the rendering to 100 percent, you can't tell the loss unless you really enlarge the image 10 etc times. If you have a 2D program like PaintShop Pro, Photo Shop elements, Photo Shop, Painter etc. you should export as a .tiff or .png like TG recommends because both contain an animal called an Alpha channel. This animal is used to make the background invisible in your 2D program (look for mask, the alpha channel will appear there as a white image on a blackground, clicking it will make the background invisible.
Why would you want to do that, because then in your base layer, you can place a nice scene there with your image in the second layer. Jan
Sooo... Not to hijack the thread, leaving the dpi at 72 is just as good as setting it to say 300? Just checking.
Have to agree with the best advice on the page. Change your render dimensions to at LEAST 800X600 (larger is better) and export to PNG. You can, as TG says, always change that to JPEG in another program which does a better job.
About dpi - Poser renders to pixel dimensions. The dpi may be embedded in the saved render for applications like photoshop that use it to determine print sizes. You can change it in photoshop to match the printer you use and it will make the print larger or smaller
600 pixels is 2" @ 300 dpi 3" @ 200 dpi or 1" @ 600 dpi
To get a 3" x 5" print @ 300 dpi you should render 900 x 1500 in Poser
8 x 10 is 2400 x 3000
pixels/inch vs dpi is a whole big issue in itself.

hi
I am running Poser 7
I can make a scene and render OK but when I come to export image the file size is too low.
Example for JPG
First try only 12 kb
I then tried to change the resolution to 300
the file size is still only 10 kb
I tried with Tiff and the size is only 10 kb, same with PNG
I am looking to export high resolution images say about 250 KB in Jpeg format.
Could you please let me know how to do this
Thanks in advance
