As for the canvas printing (i have a HP Designjet Z6100 at my work), a 150-160 dpi should be enough, be it a minimum resolution. 6400 x 4800 (160 DPI) pixels should be enough for a "40 x "30 print.
300 DPI usually is a good printing resolution for most type of print, but on canvas it's not nessecary to go that high.
