I agree, and I think there is more about the camera too. I love my Olympus camera but it does a good job of hiding things like shutter speed with presets. Instead of learning what settings I should use for a macro I just select the macro preset and shoot. Easy to get started but when you want more???

I loved your Guard Dog pic, awesome :)  Olympus cameras are awesome! Composing I think is where I need the most work, its the little details that I seem to miss, then when pointed out I,m like "oh yeah" .
