I don't know. Maybe if someone needed it for a project he would, if he didn't want to take the time to model. Maya is used for a whole lot of stuff, mostly animation, and that which is "photoreal" is only a small portion of it. If you're a freelancer and making several thousand dollars to deliver a 30 second animation for someone's commercial, 35 bucks to save yourself some time on the modeling is no big deal.
But I'm glad you found that. This is the type of thing I was hinting at in your procedural geometry thread. You're showcasing your talents in the wrong market. You ought to be trying to juice the people with the money and the ever-looming deadlines. ;-)
