Also, for you to possess the WHOLE picture like that, I know you were rendering normaly...you need to choose the rendering option to "Render To Disk", this will bypass your video card having to display the changing results of the ongoing render. Which it will still do, even if your monitor is turned off. But, THE thing that will have the MOST effect will be using a lesser seting in volumetric world options as mentioned above.
