There is one problem I can see with everyday stuff like sitting.  If you change whatever is being sat on, you run the risk of having to do a lot of tweaking.

Take the thinker statue.  If you make what he's sitting on higher or lower you might have to go through a lot of work to get the same effect if it is even possible.  You could also change the scale of the prop he's sitting on but that might not always look nice.

I think hborre has the right idea.
