Is this the way shadow_catch_only is supposed to work?

I'm having a problem with shadow-catch-only, which makes it virtually useless.  In the render, the object set to "Shadow catch only" disappears except for the shadow cast on its surface, as I'd expect, but the adjacent object also casts a shadow right through it, as if it weren't there.

I want to see only the shadow cast on the object's surface.  I've tried multiple combinations of render engines and shadow types without success.

Does anyone know how (or if) this can be fixed?

Thanks

The definition of shadow catch only is this: Fully transparent if light hits it, otherwise opaque.

So - is light hitting the ground there? Nope - so - not transparent. Works as designed and I don't know how you could expect it to work otherwise. What would the rule be? Transparent if light hits it or couldn't possibly hit it because something is in the way? But something in the way is the definition of shadow.

Saying this is virtually useless is like saying your hand is useless as it does not enable you to fly - LOL.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Sorry, BB.  Guess I should have been more specific.  I meant it is virtually useless for my purposes.

However, your snide reply did inadvertently provide the solution:  By making the ground invisible, the ground shadow disappeared.

Thank you.

You don't have to make the ground invisible unless you want to... just raise the y-axis of the shadow catcher a few .001 until it is just above the ground. Then the effects you see will go away.
